Plumbers
You would normally associate plumbers and the plumbing industry with all things related to water and gas, but many also associate them with high prices and unnecessary work. You'll even find some people who associate them with long waits in waiting, only for them never to turn up.

It's true, the plumbing trade has, for many years, been earning itself a very poor reputation. It's hard to work out why, maybe it's because the trade has been open to abuse, with anyone who wanted to become a plumber simply becoming one. No need for any training or regulation and, with the closing of many of the UK's industries such as steel and coal, and many people finding themselves out of work, they went from redundancy to plumbing. After all, what do you need other than a few tools and a method of getting yourself round to people's homes?
Gladly though, these days, plumbers have really cleaned up their act. There are more and more apprenticeships going on, so young school leavers can learn to become plumbers over a period of time, being taught the intricacies of the trade by expert plumbers with lots of experience. There are more laws, too, certainly when your plumber is going to work with any gas appliance (that would be a cooker, oven, hob, gas fire, central heating boiler – literally anything where gas is being used). The dangers of messing with gas are too high for people to take risks, and the penalties for breaking the laws are significant.
When you want a good local plumber, a great place to start your search is on the internet. A quick search through Google will turn up a number of expert plumbers who will be able to deal with any plumbing issue you may have. Call them when you have leaking or frozen pipes, when you want bathrooms installing or drains unblocking. They can fix anything to do with water and, so long as they are registered as being Gas Safe (formerly CORGI), your local plumber will be able to work on all your homes (or businesses) gas appliances too.
